Words people rhyme most

These are the words people look up most, each with its own page of rhymes and three example bars that show the word landing on a beat.

What are rhyming words?

Rhyming words end with the same sound from the last stressed vowel onward, like cat and hat, or paper and later. The match is about sound, not spelling. “Through” and “blue” rhyme even though they share no letters at the end, while “cough” and “though” look alike and don’t rhyme at all.

That’s why the finder works from a pronouncing dictionary instead of spelling. It compares the sounds of about 32,000 common English words, so every result is a word that sounds right when you say it out loud.

Kinds of rhyme

Rhymes come in a few kinds, and the finder shows the three that matter most in songs and raps. Perfect rhymes match exactly from the stressed vowel to the end, like day and play. Near rhymes, also called slant rhymes, keep the vowel and change the ending, like day and made. Multi-syllable rhymes match two vowel sounds in a row, like paper and later. A fourth kind, internal rhyme, is about where a rhyme sits rather than how it sounds: inside a line instead of at the end.

Poets lean on perfect rhymes for a clean finish. Rappers use near rhymes and multis most, because they give far more options and still sound right on a beat.

Rhyme families

A rhyme family is a group of words that share an ending sound. Learn a few families and you’ll always have a rhyme ready.

FamilyWords
-ayday, play, way, say, stay
-imetime, rhyme, climb, crime, prime
-owflow, know, go, show, slow
-eefree, me, see, three, key
-ightnight, light, right, fight, write
-amegame, name, same, frame, claim
-aprap, map, trap, cap, snap
-oneymoney, honey, funny, sunny

The family names follow the sound, so “rhyme” sits in the -ime family and “know” in the -ow family despite their spelling.
