The Rhyme Game on TikTok: What the Challenge Is and How to Do It

The rhyme game on TikTok is two challenges with one name. What each one is, how to film your own in eight bars, and where to practise free first.

The rhyme game on TikTok is a challenge where you rap or say rhyming words in time with a beat, and two different games sit behind the clips. One is freestyle rap with The Rhyme Game app, where rhyme words appear on the beat and you rap the rest. The other is “say the word on beat”, a picture game where you read rhyming words aloud like a tongue twister.

Searches for “the rhyme game” climbed from May 2026 and peaked over the summer. This guide covers what the trend looks like, how the two games differ, how to film your own clip and which words to try first.

What is the rhyme game on TikTok?

The rhyme game on TikTok is a short video where someone raps over a beat and hits a rhyme word exactly on the beat. Most clips run 15 to 60 seconds. The screen shows the words in time with the music, so viewers can see whether the person landed it or fell apart.

That’s most of the appeal. You can play along in your head while you watch, and failing is as fun to watch as nailing it. A clean run looks like a skill. A blank, a laugh and a restart look human, and those clips spread just as fast.

Both versions turn up when you search “rhyme game” in the app, and TikTok’s own search pages for the term collect them side by side.

Two games, one name

Two different games share the name, and they test different skills. The table shows the difference at a glance.

The freestyle version comes from The Rhyme Game, an app by Creative Rhythm for iPhone and Android. “Say the word on beat” is different. As The Tab described it in December 2025, it shows a symbol for each word in a box over a whistling soundtrack, and you say each word aloud in time with the music. The words all rhyme, such as rock, clock and sock, so it turns into a tongue twister.

This guide covers the freestyle version, since that’s the one you can practise and get better at.

How to do the rhyme game challenge

To do the challenge, pick a slow beat, follow the ball and say the rhyme word exactly on the fourth beat. Here’s a setup that works on the first try.

  1. Pick a beat between 85 and 95 BPM. That speed gives you time to think between rhymes.
  2. Start with every word on screen. In the game on this site that’s the Warm-up level, with all the rhyme words visible.
  3. Film vertically. Keep the game screen in the shot, either by recording the screen or by propping your phone so both you and the words are in frame.
  4. Go for eight bars. At 90 BPM, eight bars of four beats last about 21 seconds, which is the right length for a clip.
  5. If you blank, repeat your last line. It keeps you on the beat, and it sounds like you meant it.
  6. Post the tempo with your clip. Writing “90 BPM, all words” lets other people try the same round and compare.

Once eight bars at 90 feel easy, hide the words one step at a time. Showing only the first word of each pair makes you find the rhyme yourself, and that’s when the clip starts to look like real freestyle.

Words to try

Start with short words that have lots of easy rhymes. These four groups go from easy to harder.

The easiest sets are day, play, way, say, stay and night, light, right, tight, write. They have dozens of rhymes, so you’ll never run out. A step harder are money, honey, funny and sunny, which give you two syllables to match. The hardest group is paper, later, major and danger, where the rhyme runs across two vowel sounds.

If you’d rather not pick, a random word generator will hand you one. Every word in these lists also has its own page of rhymes on this site.

Avoid words with very few rhymes for your first clip. “Orange”, “month” and “silver” are famous for having almost none, and a challenge clip is no place to find that out live.

Play the rhyme game now, no app needed

You can practise before you film: the game on this site runs in your browser and costs nothing. There’s no sign-up, and you can set the beat anywhere from 70 to 160 BPM.

The game doesn’t use your microphone, so nobody hears your warm-up rounds. Do a few runs alone, find the tempo that suits you, then press record on the real one.
